New Church Blessed at Wathin Village Khonsa

10th July, Wathin, Khonsa: It was the long cherished dream of the Catholics of Wathin village to have pukka Church in their village. The people in Wathin village had been using a bamboo structure as Church ever since they became Catholics in 2001. It had dilapidated over the years and the people had longed to have a  new pukka Church. They had approached the bishop for help. Bishop asked  Fr. P.T. George, the Parish Priest of Khonsa to take the initiative to build a Church in the village. With the help from our kind donors and from the local help a pukka Church became a reality for the people here. It was blessed by Bishop George and inaugurated by MLA Wangkhi Lowang on 26 May 2013. Covention for Youth and Women in Khonsa Parish

10th July, Khonsa: A Parish level Catholic Convention was held at Wathin village under Khonsa Parish on 24th and 25th of May 2013. Ten to fifteen representatives of youth and women from 7 villages of Khonsa parish were invited for the programme. Since it is the Year of Faith, growing in faith through the Word of God was the theme of the convention. The programme was animated by Sr. Elizabeth, Sr. Jerina and Fr. Joy. First day of the convention included animation programme for youth and women separately. On the second day there were Bible quiz, Bible skit and cultural dance by the partcipants. Summer English Coaching at Christ the King Parish Khonsa

10th July, Khonsa: The Fathers and Sisters in Khonsa Parish held it’s summer vacation programme for youth from 8th April to 10th May 2013 at Christ King School, Khonsa. Sr. Georgette Ekka the Head Mistress of Christ King School and Fr. Antinio Francisco from Goa Diocese animated the programme. 58 students from different parts of the Tirap district registered for the programme. Fr. P.T. George had announced the programme in advance. The students were grouped into 2 batches: one for the English Grammar and the other for Spoken English. Fr. Antonio and Sr. Georgette conducted the classes as intensive course which lasted a month. The first batch had the lessons from 11.00 am and ended at 12.30 pm. The second batch had the lessons from 2.00 pm and ended at 3.30 pm. The students enjoyed the coaching class so much that they were regular and punctual for the programme. The students also invited the teachers to visit their homes and offer prayers. Fr. Antonio conducted a joint session of both the batches on 10th May to to mark the conclusion of the programme. Summer Computer Coaching & Retreat in Diyun

10th July, Diyun: The Frs. Deepak and Jiji in Diyun arranged a Computer Coaching and Retreat for the Youth for a month during this summer from April 10 to May 15, 2013. Many boys and girls studying in various schools regularly attended the one month computer coaching and benefitted from it.  They were taught the basics of computers and were guided to operate them too. The Fathers also orgnaized a Retreat for the Youth and the others in Balupathar village from 23 to 27 April, 2013. Women Group Learn to Read and Write in St. Jude’s Parish, Diyun

10th July, Diyun: A month-long special literacy course for a group of women, who could not read and write, was organized in St. Jude’s Parish, Diyun from April 18 to May 15, 2013. The course was facilitated by Rev. Sr. Jancy CSM, Diyun. It was nice to see that some women and girls who never went to school showed a lot of interest to read and write. The woman group from Avoipur Village of Diyun attended the regular classes under the leadership of Sr. Jancy. They took a great interest in learning many basic things like writing their names, reading and writing A, B, C, D, 1, 2, 3, & tables etc. They were also given tips on hygiene, preserving drinking water, food, and health care. “Since we did not know to read and write, our confidence was very low. We used to feel very shy.
