Free Medical Camp & Workshop on Maternal Health and Hygiene in Miao

15th July, Seva Kendra, Miao: Seva Kendra Miao in collaboration with Assam Rifles organized a health Camp in Kaikhepother village at the Government Primary School, for the four surrounding villages on 22nd May 2013. The main resource persons in the medical camp were Sr. Sushma CM and Sr. Rosamma, the women’s coordinator in the Diocese At 8:30a.m the chief commander of Assam Riffle inaugurated the camp. Altogether two hundred and thirteen (213) patients came for the check up. In the school premises a temporary shed (tent) and the arrangement were made for the workshop. The workshop on maternal health and hygiene was conducted thrice on the same day for the different groups of women. The following points discussed during the workshop 1)      Maternal and infant mortality causes 2)      Antenatal  care 3)      Minor Ailments and Management during Pregnancy 4)      New born care 5)      Main health problems found in children 6)      Immunization schedule Out come from the participants –          Few women requested to have practical lessons on homemade tonics. Seva Kendra Miao Organizes Cleanliness Campaign

15th July, Seva Kendra Miao: As part of the International Women’s Day Celebration in the Diocese, Sevak Kendra, the Social Service wing of the Diocese organized a cleanliness campaign in and around Namphai – I, Chanlang District. This cleanliness drive, organized with the theme “Be a Clean Society” saw the group of women gathered to celebrate the International Women’s Day in the street with brooms and basket to clean up the surroundings. Diocese of Miao Celebrates International Women’s Day

15th July, Seva Kendra, Miao: Seva Kendra, the social service wing of the Diocese of Miao organized Self Help Groups General Body Meeting cum International Women’s Day celebration on 23rd March 2013 at Namphai – I.  About 50 women from Miao and Kharsang took part in the celebratio with a theme: “Women as Agent of Change”. Sr. Rincy Kozhimala Director of Seva Kendra, Miao inaugurated and felicitated the occasion. Resource Person Sr. Rosamma CSSJ, the Women Coordinator for Women’s Commission, Diocese of Miao presented a speech on International Women’s Day. In her speech, she explained to the participants the history of International Women’s Day and the change that had taken place as a result of this celebration. “Women have access to all kinds of works. They can work wonders in the area of social, cultural and economic development of our people, health, child care, environment protection, literacy and small saving schemes. Yet women have a long way to go. Women are underpaid, under educated, under represented and fed less,'” she said. She also added, “In the census of India the aspect ratio of women, and literacy rate girl children are much lower than that of men. Indeed there are solutions to all the problems. Goodwill and efforts are needed both from men and women.” After the input session, the women group organized an entertainment programme, which saw all the participants on stage with a variety of cultural dances in beautiful traditional costume and songs. One of the songs was composed by women themselves on the theme ‘Women as Agent of Change’. New Church Blessed at Wathin Village Khonsa

10th July, Wathin, Khonsa: It was the long cherished dream of the Catholics of Wathin village to have pukka Church in their village. The people in Wathin village had been using a bamboo structure as Church ever since they became Catholics in 2001. It had dilapidated over the years and the people had longed to have a  new pukka Church. They had approached the bishop for help. Bishop asked  Fr. P.T. George, the Parish Priest of Khonsa to take the initiative to build a Church in the village. With the help from our kind donors and from the local help a pukka Church became a reality for the people here. It was blessed by Bishop George and inaugurated by MLA Wangkhi Lowang on 26 May 2013. Covention for Youth and Women in Khonsa Parish

10th July, Khonsa: A Parish level Catholic Convention was held at Wathin village under Khonsa Parish on 24th and 25th of May 2013. Ten to fifteen representatives of youth and women from 7 villages of Khonsa parish were invited for the programme. Since it is the Year of Faith, growing in faith through the Word of God was the theme of the convention. The programme was animated by Sr. Elizabeth, Sr. Jerina and Fr. Joy. First day of the convention included animation programme for youth and women separately. On the second day there were Bible quiz, Bible skit and cultural dance by the partcipants.
