Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil Animates the Priests & Religious in Miao Diocese

25th July, Miao: The Diocese of Miao was truly blessed with the presence of His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Thomas Menamparampil from 15to 25 July 2013. His Grace was here in the Diocese to animate all the Priests and Women Religious from all over the Diocese. Animations were conducted in five different places in the Diocese, with almost all the Priests and Woman Religious participating in one of the five. While speaking to the participants, he exhorted them to be more committed to the mission like Frs. Krick and Bourry who sowed the first seeds of Christianity in Arunachal Pradesh. Appreciating Bishop George for the great work he has done, he requested everyone to have strong missionary zeal and enthusiasm. The following points emerged from the participants out of their group discussions: We should try to have the knowledge of the local culture and language as much as possible We need to visit villages and stay with the people in the villages more often We should give more importance to lay leaders and we should guide them Our schools and other institutions should take us to people and it should not be an excuse for us not to be with the people We need to have regular family visits We need to have respect for the local cultures and laws We should respect all in the mission stations, weather Catholic, or Non Catholic or Non-Christians. Reach out to all. We should be people of prayer and give witness to our Faith by personal examples We should give Jesus to the people we meet We need to place the interest of the people before ours Church in Arunachal is what it is because of the Laity. Seva Kendra Miao Organizes Training on Human Rights

15th July, Seva Kendra Arunachal (East), Miao: Seva Kendra Miao organized a Training on Human Rights at Shangkhedong Village on 9 and 10 June 2013.    Mr. Pisi Jowing Singpho, the Chief Editor of The Miao Times was the main resource person for the two day programme, together with Sr. Rosamma, the Women Co-0rdinator and Mr. Bennyson, the Programme Coordinator.  There were about 50 participants for the training programme. The Villagers asked for Mr.Pisi Jowing many relevant questions. They showed a great interest to know what their rights are. Mr. Jowing also informed the participants about the various government facilities available for them. He also asked them many questions to know if they are aware of the many existing problems in their village. The participants pointed out the lack of  marketing facility, no proper health care facility, no encouragement to Students and many more existing problems in their village. Mr. Jowing explained to the participants the universal declaration of human right in 1948.  After the Lunch break there was a general discussion about the scheme available for the basic needs, The schemes available for the students, For women, For education,  For health, and For protection. The Second day session began at 10:30 after Sunday mass.  Mr. Bennyson and Sr. Rosamma, the main resource persons for the day, explained to the participants about the Special right of women, Right to the environment, Right to vote, Right to property, and Right to reside and migrate. The participants said, they were ignorant about the government scheme available for them. Free Medical Camp & Workshop on Maternal Health and Hygiene in Miao

15th July, Seva Kendra, Miao: Seva Kendra Miao in collaboration with Assam Rifles organized a health Camp in Kaikhepother village at the Government Primary School, for the four surrounding villages on 22nd May 2013. The main resource persons in the medical camp were Sr. Sushma CM and Sr. Rosamma, the women’s coordinator in the Diocese At 8:30a.m the chief commander of Assam Riffle inaugurated the camp. Altogether two hundred and thirteen (213) patients came for the check up. In the school premises a temporary shed (tent) and the arrangement were made for the workshop. The workshop on maternal health and hygiene was conducted thrice on the same day for the different groups of women. The following points discussed during the workshop 1)      Maternal and infant mortality causes 2)      Antenatal  care 3)      Minor Ailments and Management during Pregnancy 4)      New born care 5)      Main health problems found in children 6)      Immunization schedule Out come from the participants –          Few women requested to have practical lessons on homemade tonics. Seva Kendra Miao Organizes Cleanliness Campaign

15th July, Seva Kendra Miao: As part of the International Women’s Day Celebration in the Diocese, Sevak Kendra, the Social Service wing of the Diocese organized a cleanliness campaign in and around Namphai – I, Chanlang District. This cleanliness drive, organized with the theme “Be a Clean Society” saw the group of women gathered to celebrate the International Women’s Day in the street with brooms and basket to clean up the surroundings. Diocese of Miao Celebrates International Women’s Day

15th July, Seva Kendra, Miao: Seva Kendra, the social service wing of the Diocese of Miao organized Self Help Groups General Body Meeting cum International Women’s Day celebration on 23rd March 2013 at Namphai – I.  About 50 women from Miao and Kharsang took part in the celebratio with a theme: “Women as Agent of Change”. Sr. Rincy Kozhimala Director of Seva Kendra, Miao inaugurated and felicitated the occasion. Resource Person Sr. Rosamma CSSJ, the Women Coordinator for Women’s Commission, Diocese of Miao presented a speech on International Women’s Day. In her speech, she explained to the participants the history of International Women’s Day and the change that had taken place as a result of this celebration. “Women have access to all kinds of works. They can work wonders in the area of social, cultural and economic development of our people, health, child care, environment protection, literacy and small saving schemes. Yet women have a long way to go. Women are underpaid, under educated, under represented and fed less,'” she said. She also added, “In the census of India the aspect ratio of women, and literacy rate girl children are much lower than that of men. Indeed there are solutions to all the problems. Goodwill and efforts are needed both from men and women.” After the input session, the women group organized an entertainment programme, which saw all the participants on stage with a variety of cultural dances in beautiful traditional costume and songs. One of the songs was composed by women themselves on the theme ‘Women as Agent of Change’.
