Annual Retreat for Priests in Miao Diocese

30th August, KJN, Tinsukia: A five-day Annual Retreat for Priests in Miao Diocese was organized by Bishop George in Kristu Jyothi Niwas, Tinsukia from 26 to 30 August. Rev. Fr. Iridhayaraj from Patna Archdiocese was the Retreat Preacher. He guided the Priests to make a  good and meaningful Retreat. He stressed the importance of the Word of God in the life of a Priest and that a Priest should be passionate about reading the Word of God everyday. A priest should equip himself with the Word of God to minister to the manifold need of the people under his care.  He explained to the Priests about the importance of realizing the presence of God everyday and everywhere. But we are not able to see His presence when we have wrong priority in life, when we lack genuine prayer and personal experience with God, when our heart is not clean, when we are attached to things than to God, when there is so much evil spirit is around us, when we are lazy and when we lack good confession. There were elven Priests from all over the Diocese, attending the Retreat. Frs. Bala Reddy from Tezu, Deepak from Diyun, Biju and Tony from Neotan, Lijo from Changlang, John Doley and Thomas from Namsai, Jose Oonukallel from Kanubari, Felix from Miao, Pradeep sdb from Borduria and Paulus from Minthong attended the Retreat. All the Priests were grateful to Bishop George for organizing this beautiful Retreat and also thanked Fr. Raj for the spiritual renewal that he effected in their life. Bishop George requested the retreatants to keep alive the Spirit they have received through this Retreat. Animation of Catholic Teachers by Bishop George

18th August, Tinsukia (Miao): All the Catholic Teachers in the Diocese of Miao came together on 17th August for a Day of Animation by Bishop George on 17th August at Kristu Jyothi Niwas, Tinsukia. Bishop George, knowing the importance of the role played by teachers in the progress of the Society, gathered all the Catholic Teachers in Miao Diocese for a day of Animation. There were 72 teachers from our schools all over the Diocese. Speaking to the teachers, Bishop George said, “You may be getting a less pay in comparison to your friends in some other schools. You may have to work harder and more number of days. But your role as a Catholic teacher is confined to the textbooks and notebooks. It goes beyond to shape the future of these young children under your care.” Citing various examples of the Catholic Teachers in the past, he requested them to give witness to their  faith as Catholic teachers. He appreciated the old teachers in the Diocese and requested the young ones to be more committed to their call as Catholic Teachers. Fr. CC Jose, speaking to the teachers,  echoed the same sentiments. “Do not look at your pay. But you will have the satisfaction of educating some future leaders of our society and country at large,” he said, while addressing the Teachers. Fr. Thomas Erambil, the Education Commission incharge of the Diocese of Miao, facilitated the animation. Feast of Assumption & Independance Day Celebrated

18th August, Miao: The Feast of Assumption of Mother Mary and India’s 67th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August throughout the whole Diocese of Miao. In Miao , the Minor Seminarians at Kristu Jyothi Seminary made sure that the day is marked with celebrations in their chronicles. Fr. C C Jose, the Rector of the Seminary officiated the Holy Mass on this day and explained to the students the important role played by Mother Mary in God’s plan of Salvation for all mankind. “Mary’s Assumption that we celebrate today is an example of the holiness of life that God has gifted each one of us with”, he said. The Seminarians, after the Mass, gathered outside the Church for Falg Hoisting to celebrate the Independence Day. They spent the day in singing and a lot of group games. Feast of St. John Mary Vianney Celebrated in Miao Diocese

5th August, Kristu Jyothi Niwas, Tinsukia: The Diocese of Miao celebrated the Feast of St. John Mary Vianney, the Patron Saint of all the Priests on 1st August 2013 in Kristu Jyothi Niwas, Tinsukia. Rev. Fr. Mathew Pulingathil SDB animated all the Diocesan Priests gathered on the  occasion with a very inspiring message. Wishing all of them a very Happy Feast, he invited all the Priests to live a simple life with the concern for the poor. He, quoting the example of St. John Mary Vianney and Blessed John Paul II, requested all of them to keep at the centre of their life people at the centre of their ministry. He said to the Priests, “Labour for the Lord and that will not go in vain. Christ must be gloried at all times.” The Animation was concluded with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, followed by Holy Mass officiated by Bishop George. At the end of the Mass, new Diocesan Fraternity President was elected. We thank Fr. Jose Oonukallel, the outgoing President and welcome Fr. Animation Programme for the Boarders in Newman School, Neotan

5th August, Neotan: A two-day animation programme for the boys and girls in the boarding was conducted in Newman School Neotan on 6th and 7th July 2013. About 150 boarding boys and girls from Neman School, Neotan, came together for two-dayanimation programme. This was to motivate the young students and help them channel their energy to creative and constructive results. During the course of the programme Frs. Joseph and Felix gave time for the students to reconcile with their friends. It was very moving to see the boys and girls to stand up and say “sorry” to the ones they may have hurt. The students were reminded of the truth that their youthfulness is a decisive time, which will decide how the rest of their life is going to be. The Fathers, speaking on the occasion, told the boarders that they are a gift to the society and God has given them so many talents, not for themselves but for a special purpose, to build a better society. All the students participated very actively in the programme and were very happy at the end of it.
