News Summary from Rajanagar Parish: 1. CATECHISTS RETREAT AT MARGHERITA 135 Catechists and lay leaders of Miao Diocese participated in a very enriching Retreat at Divine Renewal Retreat Centre at Margherita from September 14 to 18, 2014. The participants were trained in conducting Sunday Services. Reflections were centrered around the day to day experiences they face in their own life situations. Inspite of his pakced schedules, Bishop George made it a point to visit and pray with them which was a great encouragement for them. 2. NATIONAL CATECHETICAL CONFERENCE 2014 National Catechetical Conference of India was held in NEDSF Guwahati from 23 to 25 September 2014. 84 Dioceses from all over India participated in this annual programme. Fr. Shaji Valiaparambil SDB represented Miao Diocese. The theme for this year was “Use of Media in Catechesis”. Various methods and means are used in Catechising the people in our country. The best way of Catechising the rural people are through traditional methods. The Conference recommended that we give training to catechists in media education. 3. DON BOSCO YOUTH RETREAT IN RAJANAGAR A Mega Youth Fest was organized in Rajanagar Parish from 3 to 5 October as the Salesians are celebrating the Bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco from August 15, 2014 to August 16, 2015. The Chief animators were Fr. Peter Mahindra Tigga SJ and Rev. Anthony Toppo SDB. There were 187 participants who were kept alive with Don Bosco way of play ground Catechism and religious instructions. 4. NIGHT VIGIL IN RAJANAGAR Every second Saturday of the month people gather for the night vigil at Rajanagar Parish, animated by the Divine Retreat Centre, Margherita Team. Christian from other denominations also take active participation in the Eucharistic Adoration, Holy Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Bible Class, Praise and Worship and Holy Mass. The Light of the World School, Miao played host to 450 students and 25 staff from 17 schools under the Newman Educational Society, conducting the Annual Interschool Sports Festival RADIANCE – 2014 organized by the Newman Educational Society, the Educational Wing of the Diocese of Miao. After the success of the First Radiance 2013 held in Roing in Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh, the students came together at Light of the World School in Miao, Changlang District to showcase their talents in the filed of sports and games. The 450 students from the 17 schools under the Newman Educational Society participated in the event with enthusiasm and perfect sportsmanship. Speaking on the inaugural function of the event, Hon’ble Honchun Ngandam MLA, Wakka – Pongchao circle, said, the events of this kind is very important as it will shape the students to face the challenges ahead and also it will discipline the students. “When I was a student like you, I did not get opportunity like you do – good schools, good teachers and good activities. You must be thankful to Newman Educational Society for this initiative to give you a platform to showcase your talents”, he said. He also thanked Bishop George for inviting him to encourage the students on this occasion. Out of the 17 schools that participated in the event, the Newman School, Neotan became the overall Champion School, Krick and Bourry Memorial School, Tezu was the first runner up and the last year’s Champion school, St. Savio School, Kanubari was the second runner up. “When we left the school for the event we had only one goal – winning the Champion Trophy. I am very happy we did just that”, said Wilman from Newman School, Neotan. Shri Chowna Mein, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, Government of Arunachal Pradesh was the Chief Guest on the concluding day event on 19th October. Speaking to the students, he appreciated the work done by the Newman Educational Society in this region in the field of education. “I really thank Bishop George and his team for the great service they do here. I also very much like the idea of giving a sapling to the guests instead of the customary flower bouquet. It is a great thing and it helps promote environment safety. I hope many people like us take this a novel idea to safeguard ecology”, he said. Bishop George said, “I am so happy to see so many future leaders of our society gathered here in Miao. You have the capacity and you have what it takes to become leaders.” Expressing his sorrow at the number of young people going astray he said, ‘You have got to make a choice in life, having a focus and and setting your aim on your goal.” He advised the students to have no doubts. “Remove the ‘if’ from your mind because you will become what you want provided that you keep your focus and aim”, he added. There were altogether 23 events during the course of the three-day event. read moreSt. Xavier’s Lazu Gets a new Grotto of our Lady
The newly made Grotto of Our Lady was blessed by Rev. Dr. Raju Mathew Panackal, Superior General of Missionaries of Compassion, at Lazu on 15th September 2014, the Feast of our Lady of Sorrow. Regular prayers are conducted at the Grotto on every Saturday. Many of the Lazu faithful attend the Holy Rosary and Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and receive the graces of our Blessed Mother. This grotto was made by Fr. Joy and his team without the help of any workers. It has been such a difficult situation that for the past 3 months as the one only road to Lazu was blocked because of landslides. Braving all the difficulties Fr. Joy and his team completed the Grotto successfully. On this important day, new Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows Servites of Mary of Pisa(OLS) who joined the Mission from this July celebrated the Feast of their Congregation. Fr. Joy Mathew the Parish Priest at Lazu presided over the celebrations and there were cultural programs by the parish Faithful and School Children. In the light of the Universal Church’s call to reflect on the Conciliar Document Ad Gentes on its 5oth Anniversary, the Priests and Religious working in the Diocese of Miao got together in groups district wise to reflect on theme “Ecclesial Awarness and Missio ad gentes” from 22nd December 2014 in five different places in the Diocese. Bishop George responding to the Church’s call formulated a 10-points reflection note to discuss with the Priests and Religious in the Diocese of Miao and to respond to the demands of the Conciliar Document Ad Gentes. The capacity to animate / increase enthusiasm for making Christ known, the courage to bear witness, the capacity to bear witness, to make an option for the poor and the needy, for dialogue, to make the Church visible within the Society, the capacity to create / maintain a good rapport between the Church and the Sate, and the capacity to manifest collegiality among the Bishops and their communion with the Pope were some of the Points the Priests and Religious reflected upon together with Bishop George. The first of the five group discussions was held in St. George Parish Deomali on 20th September, 2014 in which all the Fathers and Sisters working Tirap District participated. The Second was held in Minthong Mission in Longding District in which also there was 100% attendance of the Fathers and Sisters working in Longding District of the Diocese of Miao. “Ad Gentes is something we studied when were students of Theology. We did not understand much the importance and the relavence of its teaching then. But thanks to this initiative from our Bishop we now have a clear understanding of the Documents and its demands”, said Priest working in Longding District. “A lot of important points came up during the course of the discussion we hope we can try to implement them to make Christ known to more people in our region”, he added. “Discussion on the Conciliar Document not only makes us aware of its teaching but becomes a big guide-book in our endavour to take Christ to people”, said Sr. Reena SSHp, working at Senua Mission in Longding District. Bishop George looks at this exercise not just as occassion for Preists and Religious to come together but have a serious reflection on their contribution to the people under their care in the context of the teaching of Ad Gentes. “I hope that we become more committed in our responsibility to make Christ known among the people here and that we bear witness to our faith by words and examples”, he said. This occasion also provided the participants to discuss on their transparency and commitment to the call they have responded to.
