Celebrating the Jubilee of Mercy in Miao Diocese, a series of Retreat has been organized for different groups. The First Retreat in this series was held at Bishop’s House Miao from 29 February to 5 March. “Merciful like the Father” was the theme of the Retreat, preached by Rev. Fr. Panneer Selvam, Executive Secretary to the CBCI Commission for Proclamation. There were 13 Priests attending the Retreat. Fr. Panneer highlighted the “Mercy” of God with the these-based sessions on ‘Good Samaritan’, ‘Merciful Father’, ‘Sinfulness in All’, ‘Face of Mercy’, ‘Experience of Mercy by Faith’, ‘Spirit of Mercy’, ‘Works of Mercy’, and ‘Apostles of Mercy’. All the Priests attending the Retreat experienced the Mercy of God in depth and committed to New Evangelization and to be ‘agents of Mercy taking the Gospel of Mercy to the people under their care. The Retreat concluded with the “24 Hours for the Lord” Eucharistic Adoration on 5th March, joining the Universal Church in the Jubilee of Mercy event. The Retreat Preacher was very happy to see the commitment, cooperation, silence and dedicated participation in the Retreat. In the wake of the recent suspected terrorist on Mother Teresa Sisters in Yamen and responding to Pope’s invitation to participate in the “24 Hours for the Lord” programme, as part of the Extraordinary Jubilee Mercy celebrations, Sacred Heart Parish, Neotan village in Miao Diocese, conducted Eucharistic Adoration, sessions on Jubilee of Mercy, Divine Mercy Chaplets and Healing prayer on 4th March 2016. The world woke up to tragic news of 4 Missionaries of Charity (MC) Nuns among 16 people gunned down suspected Islamic fundamentalists on 3 March, 2016. To express solidarity with the Church in this time of great pain and to pray for the deceased Nuns, the “24 Hours for the Lord” programme was organized in Neotan village of Miao Diocese. The progamme, which was part of the Jubilee of Mercy, had great significance in the context of this recent attack on MC Nuns in Yamen. Starting the day with a session on the Jubilee theme, ‘Mercy’, the faithful gathered for the event were made aware of the significance of this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Mr. Nonkhum Mossang, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, and Mrs. Likhro Mossang, Diocesan Women President, were the main resource persons for the sessions. The healing and anointing prayer moved everyone to tears. “It is sad to know what happened to the MC Nuns. They have sacrificed their life for the love of Christ. I am here to express my solidarity with the Church and pray for the Nuns and for the missing Salesian Priest”, said Mrs. Dangnai Mossang, Anchal Samiti Member, participating in the “24 Hours for the Lord” prayer service. The faithful gathered for the event had a chance to approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the event. “I thank God for this day that I could participate in a day like this. I feel really blessed today, spending time with the Eucharistic Lord, meditating on the Mercy of God”, said Mr. Tuba Mossang, another Parishner. Responding to the Year of Mercy’s call to make Pilgrimage 35 inmates of Mother Theresa House, Borduria made pilgrimage to the Door of Mercy at Christ the Light Shrine in Miao on 10 February 2016. 35 pilgrimes along with the MC Sisters at Borduria reached Miao on 10 February and made Way of the Cross and and Confession and received special blessings. Bishop George, celebrating Holy Mass for the pilgrims appreciated the MC Sisters for the great works of Charity and Mercy they are doing in the Diocese and wished them abundance of God’s Mercy. The people in Lazu mission had every reason to celebrate as they were blessed with two village chapels here on 20 and 21 February 2016. The chapels in Lazu Mission were blessed by Bishop George in the presence of Rev. Fr. Raju MoC, the Superior General of the Missionaries of Compassion Fathers, in the presence of Mr. Thomas and his family from Kerala who sponsored the chapels. The faithful in Lazu mission are grateful to God and the kind donors for the gift of these chapels in their villages.
