Eucharistic Procession to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King

The people across Miao Diocese in eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh concluded the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy and celebrated the feast of Christ the King with Eucharistic Procession on 20 November 2016. Concluding the liturgical calendar 2016 that coincided with the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy with Pope Francis officially closing the Door Mercy at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on 20 November, the people across Miao Diocese made Eucharistic Procession with religious piety. The conclusion of Jubilee of Mercy coinciding with the Feast of Christ the King and the last day of the liturgical calendar made the Eucharistic Procession very solemn. There were Eucharistic processions in Christ the King Church, Khonsa in Tirap District, St. Paul’s Church, Nampong,  and Sacred Heart Church Netoan in Changlang District. Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy Concludes with special Praise and Thanksgiving at Miao Diocese

The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy declared by Pope Francis last year came to a solemn conclusion with praise and thanksgiving to God at Miao on 17 November 2016. The Diocese of Miao situated in the extreme north eastern corner of India in Arunachal Pradesh, responded to Pope Francis’ call to celebrate the year 2015 as Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, with pilgrimages, seminars on theme Mercy, conventions on Divine Mercy, 24 Hours for the Lord, and Divine Mercy Prayer Chain across the eight district of east Arunachal Pradesh. There were animations for youth, children, women, catechists, Women Religious and Priests in the eight districts under the Diocese of Miao. The closing ceremony of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy in Miao Diocese took place at Christ the Light Shrine, Miao, where the Holy Door of Mercy was installed. Speaking to the faithful gathered for the closing ceremony, Bishop George of Miao Diocese, said the year of mercy has indeed been a year of blessing for all of us. “We close the celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy today, but we do not close our heart to be merciful”, he said. “The success of this great event of the Church depends mostly on what we do from now on. Let us be merciful just like our Heavenly Father is Merciful.” The people gathered for the closing ceremony praised and thanked God for the mercy shown unto them. This year has been a year of renewal for me and my family, said Mr. Somlung Mossang, a Catholic leader from Miao. “We made pilgrimage – something we never did before. There were opportunities for confession on several occasions, and all the seminars on convention on Mercy made me and my family spiritually stronger”, he said. We thank God and our Pope Francis for this Jubilee of Mercy, said Mrs. Lamati, the Women Secretary of the Diocese of Miao. “We are grateful to our Bishop for the various events on Mercy organized in our Diocese. We hope to be merciful always in the coming day just like our Heavenly Father has shown his mercy through Jesus Christ”, she added. Children raise fund to help poor children to celebrate Children’s Day

Students in a school in remote corner of Arunachal Pradesh raised fund to help poor children to celebrate Children’s Day this year. To experience the joy of sharing and to cultivate a spirit of solidarity in them, the children in Newman School Neotan in eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh organized a fancy fete to raise fund to help the poor children, celebrating the Children’s Day this year. “We ourselves are not from very rich families. But our little help today make a big difference to someone somewhere”, said Mansham Mossang a ninth grader. All the children in the school participated joyfully in the fund raising event. Though it was a fund raising event, we wanted to make it fun for all the students, said Fr. Felix, the principal of the school. The children contributed to the fund-raising by purchasing tickets for the various fun activities organized by the teachers. “It is very satisfying to contribute for a noble cause today. I know my contribution is very small but it feels great to realize that I am helping an unknown poor child somewhere”, said Kanseng Ronrang of Class X. Fr. Felix appreciated and thanked the students for their generous expression of solidarity with poor children. The children too expressed their joy at having got an opportunity to celebrate Children’s Day with the difference this year. The teachers of the school put up a colourful cultural programme to entertain the children prior to the fancy fete. Animation for Catholic Children at Kanubari

St. Savio School Kanubari in Longding district conducted a three-day animation cum retreat for Catholic children from 10 to 12 October 2016 at the school hall. Fr. Daniel, the youngest Priest from Miao Diocese working in Tezu mission along with Sr. Julie animated the 350 catholic students gathered for the three-day event. Bishop George speaking to the students on the concluding day of the programme said that the best way to be a good citizen is to be good Christian. “Some of you must think of being Priests and Sisters and that will be a great thing as the Church needs young people like you”, he said. Arunachal Pradesh gets first Christian Hospital

The State of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern part of India was blessed with the first Christian Hospital at Injan in Changlang District on 12 October 2016. Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri. Chowna Mein, was the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the KBM Hospital Injan, dedicated to the memory of two French Missionaries, Frs. Krick and Bourry, who were killed on their way to Tibet, in Somme village near Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh in 1854. Shri. Honchun Ngandam, Minister for Education was the Guest of Honour and local legislator cum Minister for WRD, Geology & Mining and Food & Civil Supplies, Shri. Kamlun Mosang presided over the event. Speaking at the inaugural function, the Deputy CM, lauded the contribution of Catholic missionaries to the State of Arunachal, especially in the field of education and healthcare. “I am a Bosconian myself”, said the DCM, “I have a very fond memory of my life with Catholic missionaries. It is the Don Bosco School where I studied that polished me to be the person I am today”. He termed the KBM Hospital established by Miao Diocese as the greatest gift to Arunachal Pradesh while adding that he was very proud to be a part of its inauguration. Mein also assured of extending all possible help from the Government to make this hospital truly a blessing for all in this part of Arunachal Pradesh. Touching the issue of drug menace affecting people especially in the eastern part of the State, Mein said that it was high time that all sections of the society joined hands together and say no to drugs. Education Minister too in his address highlighted the contribution of Christian missionaries to the State in the field of education. He also used the opportunity to highlight the various new plans and policies in the pipeline to change dismal education scenario in the state. Shri. Kamlung Mosang noted in his speech that “Arunachal Pradesh is known as the land of the rising Sun. But the light of development so far has not reached here.” Acknowledging the significant contribution of Catholic Missionaries to Arunachal in the field of education and healthcare, he said this first Christian hospital is a big blessing to the people in Changlang District. “What is spent for the taxi fare to reach the hospital in Assam can be used for a good and effective treatment from experienced Doctors and nurses here in this hospital”, he said. Bishop George of Miao Diocese and the Patron of the KBM Hospital gave a brief account of Fathers Krick and Bourry. As per the records, Fr. Krcik had treated an injured person and that was the first instance of healthcare by the catholic mission in Arunachal Pradesh. Quoting St. Irenaeus, a second century Saint, he said, “The glory of God is man fully alive.” If person if ill or illiterate, God will not be happy, he opined. He also added that poverty has no religion, sickness has no religion, and hunger has no religion. “Let us join our hands to eradicate these from our society to make man fully alive for the glory of God”, he said.
