NE celebrates the birth centenary of Archbishop Hubert D’ Rosario

Born in Kerala, South India, in February 1919, he became the first Indian Salesian to be a Rector of some of the famous Salesian Institutions of the South and West India. He was appointed the Bishop of Dibrugarh when he was the Rector of Don Bosco School,and Shrine of Mary Help of Christians. In 1969, when Foreign Missionaries had to leave North East India, he took up as the Archbishop of Shillong, from Bishop Stephen Ferrando SDB who went back to Italy. As the only Archbishop of the whole Region, he provided able leadership to the Region. When Bishop George joined as a young seminarian in July 1970, and met him and heard him , he was highly impressed. His missionary exhortations were unique. He set before the people the slogan, “each one catch one”, something Bishop George keeps telling the young people even today. He died in 1994. In the 80s he started a Religious Congregation of women, as he was disappointed with the existing groups, who paid very little attention to visiting, staying and evangelizing and Catechising the villages. The mission given to these Sisters was that and they were named “Volunteer Sisters of Don Bosco” (VSDB) . French Missionaries Krick and Bourry remembered at the 60th Tibetan National Uprising Day

French Missionaries Krick and Bourry were remembered at the 60th Tibetan National Uprising Day commemoration in Miao on 10 March 2019. “Tibet and Christianity in Arunachal Pradesh have an age-old connection”, said Mrs. Likro Mossang, women president of Miao Diocese in east Arunachal Pradesh. “French Missionaries Nicolas Krick and Augustine Bourry were killed on their way to Tibet in 1854. They sowed the first seeds of Christianity in Arunachal Pradesh 165 years ago before they were killed on August 2 the same year at the Tibet-Arunachal border region by a Mishmi chieftain.” Tibetans all over the world gather together every year on 10 March to commemorate the unforgettable event in the Tibetan history and pay homage to the thousands of heroes who laid their lives, resisting brutal suppression of the Chinese Communist occupation forces in 1959. “Though Fathers Krick and Bourry could not enter Tibet, my presence with you today as a guest on the 60th Anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day is like fulfilling the dream of the two French Missionaries”, Mrs. Mossang said, addressing the a large gathering of 500 Tibetan women from the Miao Tibetan Settlement, who took out a candlelight Peace March from the settlement to Miao town, covering distance of five kilometers on foot. Miao in Arunachal Pradesh has the largest Tibetan settlement in the North East India with 500 families with the population of more than 3000 people. The memories of the Servants of God Krick and Bourry, the missionaries to Tibet getting revived on the 60th Tibetan National Uprising Day augurs well for the cause of canonization of the two martyrs. With the prayerful support of these two holy men, one hopes that the global humanrights  communities, like the UNO, would wake up to the poor plight of the Tibetans settled across the world and support them in their fight for freedom and help them return to their country one day to live with dignity. Miao Diocese Women pray for jailed Mother Theresa Nun

Celebrating the International Women’s Day, the women in a remote village in Miao Diocese of Arunachal Pradesh prayed for the release of the jailed Mother Teresa Nun in Jharkhand on 8 March. The women in Neotan village in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the International Women’s Day with a special prayer service for the release of Sr. Concelia Baxla, a Mother Teresa (MC) Sister who was arrested 8 months ago on alleged charges of child trafficking from Nirmal Hriday Convent in Jharkhand. “We know that Sr. Concelia is innocent. She is in jail for false case by people with vested interests to show the church in poor light”, said Mrs. Likro Mossang, the Catholic Women President of east Arunachal Pradesh. “We join with her and scores of other women who languish in jail because of false cases. This is our best way to celebrate our women’s day this year”. Sister Concelia along with an employee of the Convent Ms. Anima Indwar was arrested on 5 July 2018 in Jharkhand capital city Ranchi on an alleged case of child trafficking. Ms. Indwar is out on bail but Sr. Baxla is still languishing in jail. The men and youth from the village too joined the women in praying for the release of the MC Sister. “We are very sad for Sr. Concelia. We hope that our prayers help her to get bail soon”, said Mr. Chomjung Mossang, the men president of the village. The women while praying for the jailed Nun also prayed for peace in the country in the wake of tension in India – Pakistan border and also for peace in Arunachal Pradesh, which witnessed unprecedented violence during the last week of February over the government’s decision to grant Permanent Residence Certificate to non tribals who settled in the state.
