New FMA Community inaugurated at Namphai II

It was an important day for the Salesian Sisters (FMA) and for the Diocese of Miao on 13th May 2016 as they opened a new community at Namphai II in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh. Rev. Sr. Provincial FMA Guwahati and the Provincial Economer Sr. Jessy FMA expressed their great joy at opening a new community here in the Diocese of Miao on the important day of the Feast of Mother Mazzerello, the Co-founder of FMA Sisters together with St. Don Bosco. Bishop George celebrated Holy Mass for the Sisters at the Inauguration and wished them all the very best. The FMA Community will take over the school that was there and will start also a de-addiction centre there. Namphai area has the maximum number of drug addicts in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Starting a centre for the addicts have been a pressing need here. Bishop George is very happy that the FMA Sisters. Rev. Sr. Kaini FMA and Sr. Teresa FMA will be form the pioneering community at Namphai II. Miao Diocese Participates in the Jubilee of Mercy for Priests with Animation

Diocese of Miao participated in the Jubilee of Mercy for Priests with the Universal Church with animation for Priests in the Diocese on 2nd June 2016 at Kristu Jyothi Niwas, Tinsukia, Assam. Miao Diocese, which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary of its glorious existence has organized a series of an event for different groups in the Diocese, organized a day-long Animation for all the Priests in the Diocese to participate in the Jubilee of Mercy for Priests together with the Universal Church on 2nd June here in Tinsukia. Rev. Fr. Kuriakose, former Rector and present faculty at Oriens Theological College, Shillong, was the resource for the Animation attended by 47 Priests from all over the Diocese. “Mercy is not a term but it is a Person, Jesus Christ. And we Priests must be that visible face of Christ, who is the merciful face of the Father”, Fr. Kuriakose said at the animation, quoting Pope Francis, who has come to be known as the Pope of Mercy. Bishop George Pallipparambil SDB, Bishop of Miao, introducing the event to the Priests said to the Priests, “The fundamental identity of Priests to be merciful like the heavenly Father. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation a Priest enacts this aspect of the Heavenly Father”. The Diocese of Miao is celebrating the Year 2016 as its 10th Anniversary and also the Jubilee of Mercy with a series of events. The first one was a grand Youth Convention on 27-29 May. Miao Diocese Celebrates 10th Anniversary & Jubilee of Mercy for Youth

The Diocese of Miao with its Headquarters in Miao Changlang District celebrated its 10th Anniversary of its glorious existence and the Jubilee of Mercy for Youth with a grand Youth Convention at Don Bosco School Kheti Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh from 27 to 29 May 2016. Miao Diocese that caters to the all-round development of people in East Arunachal Pradesh is celebrating its 10th Anniversary together with the celebration of Jubilee of Mercy with the Universal Church with a series of events for different groups of people in this party of the country. The first of this series was a grand Catholic Youth Convention held at Don Bosco School Ground at Kheti village Tirap District. Speaking on the concluding day programme, Mr. Riba, EAC Judicial Tirap District, lamented the lack of sufficient role models for the youth in the society. “You must motivate yourself, and acquire the leadership qualities so that you can be role models for the future generation”, he said. There were 900 youth from all the eight districts of east Arunachal Pradesh attending the three-day event. The sharing by Catholic Youth leaders on the second day of the convention was the highlight of the event. Miss Rita Lowang , HOD Social Work , RGU, Itangar, from Luthong village, shared with the youth her success story and advised them to accept and love themselves first. She said, “Youth from our districts lack opportunity and confidence. But you should face the situation and overcome your fear.” Mr. Nepha Wangsa , Gold Medalist in Political Science from Ngissa village of Longding District told the youth to stop dropping-out. “Poverty should never be an excuse for you to drop-out from schooling. I am from a humble family myself and if you have the desire and determination to succeed in life nothing would stop you”, he added. Dr. Wanglit Mongchan another scholar from Borduria village of Tirap District said your commitment to succeed combined with a disciplined life and prayer is the ‘success mantra’. All the youth enjoyed all the sessions of the conventions and were grateful to the organizing committee for organizing such a useful convention for them in Tirap District for the first time. Mr. L. Wanglet, Ex-Minister Gov. of Arunachal Pradesh too addressed the youth and explained to them to keep up the importance of culture in life. Citing the example of Ms. Oseola McCarty, a washerwoman, who became a great example for iconic leadership, exhorted all the youth to be leaders even without portfolios. Mr. Tajom Aboh, Parliamentary Secretary and Ex-Minister Gov. of Arunachal Pradesh too addressed the youth during the convention. The youth also had a group sharing session in which everyone participated actively and came up with valuable suggestions to become leaders of the society. Bishop George Pallipparambil SDB, the Bishop of Miao and the person who envisioned such an event sent his greetings and blessings to all the youth present for the convention. Catechist Retreat at Divine Retreat Centre Marghertia

As part of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy celebrations in the Diocese of Miao, a week long Retreat was organized for all the Catechists in the Diocese from 25 to 29 April 2016 at Divine Renewal Retreat Centre, Margehrita. With the sole aim of making everyone ‘to be merciful like the Father’, Bishop George has organized several renewal programmes for different groups in the Diocese. A Retreat for all the Catechists was held at Margherita from 25 to 29 April, in which around 350 Catechists, woman leaders and youth leaders participated. Fr. Boby VC and his Renewal Team from Margherita Retreat Centre help all the participants understand the Mercy of God, Jesus Christ, and also exhorted everyone to be ‘merciful like the Father’. Bishop George celebrated Mass for the Catechists on 28 April and also talked to every Catechist present for the Retreat. He aslo held a meeting of all the Catechists on 29 April to listen to their concern for the growth the Church in the remote corners of the Diocese. “I am so happy to be with you today. You are the Church. It is you who made sacrifices and bore pain for the growth of the Church here”, he said. Sacred Heart Convent for the Hospital Community Blessed at Injan

A Convent for the Sacred Heart Sisters who will be taking care of the near-complete Krick and Bourry Hospital at Injan was blessed and inaugurated on 14 April 2016 by Mrs. Longri, Zilla Parishad Member, Khrsang. This is a landmark event in the history of the Diocese of Miao as the hospital which has been under construction for the last few years is nearing completion. The first step towards this is a moving in of a group of Sacred Heart Sisters from Pala Province. The new convent for the hospital community sisters was blessed and inaugurated on 14 April. Mrs. Longri expressed her joy at this new milestone of the Diocese of Miao. “Everyone has been asking when this hospital will start functioning. Lack of proper medical facility in our area is a concern for all of us. And it was a huge relief for the people of this area to see a good hospital in this area”, she said speaking on the occasion. “I am very happy the convent is inaugurated today and we all hope that the new hospital will be a reality soon”, she added. Sr. Nirmala SH, the Lab Technician and Sr. Elizabeth SH, trained nurse will form the new hospital community at Injan with Sr. Alphonsamma SH as Superior of the House. Bishop George and the neighbouring community gathered for the event prayed for God’s blessing and mercy to have the hospital functioning within this year. The beautiful hospital building is ready. The Diocese of Miao appeals to all its friends to help get the instruments necessary to get the hospital ready.
