Youth Retreat in Deomali
9th July, Deomali: Two Brothers, Xavier and Kiran, from Goa animated the Youths of the Parish from 19 to21 April, 2013. The Brothers helped the Youth to make a good Spiritual Retreat to strengthen their relationship with God. It was an occasion of Spiritual awakening for the youths from Deomali from the neighbouring five villages. 9th July, Deomali: St. George’s Parish, Deomali was bustling with activities during the summer month of April, May and June. Here is summery of the various activities. Easter House Blessing: Every house was blessed during the Easter season. The blessing started from Deomali and then to the rest of the villages. Marriage Course: Two days of intensive marriage course was given for those couple who wished to rectify their marriages for the first time in Deomali Parish. There were ten pairs in all. Bishop George was the Officiating Minister. Sr. Pauline Narzary and Fr. Linus Jamuda were the resource persons. They received the blessing on 05th May on the occasion of the Feast of St. George the Patron Saint of the Parish on the eve of the blessing of Wachhatong village Church. They expressed lots of joy as their marriages were rectified. Confirmation Course: Along with marriage rectification, 17 of the 20 participants received the sacrament of confirmation. They were confirmed by Bishop George on 05th May. On this occasion the Mass was in the evening because Bishop had to rush to Nokfan village for the new Church blessing. Marian Novena and Procession: Marian Novena was held from 23rd to 30th May for the all the Parishioners. It was solemnly concluded on 30th May. There was a solemn procession from the Sisters’ Convent to the Parish. On 25th May Fr. Linus Jamuda along with Srs. Cecilia Ekka and Pauline Narzary spent time with the people catechizing in Makat Village through Marian Procession and marriage rectification. On that day there were four couples received the sacrament of Marriage rectification. Daily Family Visit: Besides taking care of the sale of text books and notebooks in the school and many other responsibilities two Sisters visited the Families deaily in search of the lost sheep in the Parish. 6th July, Ngissa: We can see the joy on every face in Ngissa Village on 11th June, 2013, as Bishop George blessed and inaugurated the new Convent of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, in the presence of a large of a large number of faithful and Fathers and Sisters. The Convent, the work of which was going on for a long time, finally became a reality for the Sisters, who were living in a Bamboo house with thatched roof. The Convent will serve the Sisters as their residence, hostel for the girls and as a dispensary. It will be a big blessing to the people in and around the place. The blessing brought so many Priests and Religious from all over the Diocese to Ngissa. The large number of the faithful gathered for the blessing made the occasion more solemn. Bishop George, speaking on the occasion said, “It is so beautiful to see a beautiful house as this in a remote place like Ngissa. But the real beauty of the place will depend upon the purpose this house is used for. May this place be a source of many people around this area.” Sr. Daya, who was overseeing the construction, can now take a big sigh of relief as the construction is over. 6th July, Pongkong, Lazu: Bishop George blessed and inaugurated the newly built St. Joseph’s church at Ponkong village in Lazu Parish on 12 June, 2013. Pongkong is a small Catholic community of Lazu people under Lazu Parish. It was a long standing dream of these people to have a better place to have their Mass and prayers. This new Church fulfills that dream. All the faithful in the village worked hard to make this Church a reality. read morePrayer Centre Inaugurated in Lazu to Promote Year of Faith
July, 6th, Lazu: A centre for fasting and prayer was blessed and inaugurated by Bishop George at Lazu on 12th of June, 2013. The people of this region are considerably affected by the superstitious beliefs. To counter this, the Missionaries of Compassion Fathers in Lazu Mission station have opened a centre for fasting and prayer and it was blessed by Bishop George on 12th June 2013. It was a long standing dream of the faithful in the mission to have centre of this kind. Organized retreats will take place from Saturday to Tuesday every week but the centre is open for anyone who wishes to pray any day. This way the Diocese has taken another step during this year of faith in order to grow in the Christian Faith. Besides this, the Fathers also have introduced adult catechism in the parish on every Sunday and catechism for children every Saturday and catechism for women on every Friday. The parish is divided into nine units and there is regular family gathering and prayer in each unit on Sundays.
