Women Group Learn to Read and Write in St. Jude’s Parish, Diyun

10th July, Diyun: A month-long special literacy course for a group of women, who could not read and write, was organized in St. Jude’s Parish, Diyun from April 18 to May 15, 2013.

The course was facilitated by Rev. Sr. Jancy CSM, Diyun. It was nice to see that some women and girls who never went to school showed a lot of interest to read and write. The woman group from Avoipur Village of Diyun attended the regular classes under the leadership of Sr. Jancy. They took a great interest in learning many basic things like writing their names, reading and writing A, B, C, D, 1, 2, 3, & tables etc. They were also given tips on hygiene, preserving drinking water, food, and health care.

“Since we did not know to read and write, our confidence was very low. We used to feel very shy. Now that we do, we feel a lot more confident and feel different and better”, said one of the participating women at the end of the course.
