World Environment Day Celebrated in Miao Diocese

  The Diocese of Miao celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5, 2014, planting trees and with rally to spread awareness about the importance of safeguarding the Mother Earth. World Environment Day is an annual event that aims at being the largest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. World Environment day activities take place all year round and climax on June every year, involving everyone and everywhere. Most of the School in Miao diocese too observed the day with planting trees and awareness rally. Awareness was also given to the students on environment by sessions and video clips. The staff and the students of many schools in the Diocese were very enthusiastic to be a part of this event. They planted various types of plants and trees and cleaned the school premise to preserve the sacredness of the Earth. “We have only one Earth. Let us safe-guard it”, said a student from Light of the World School, Miao. “Celebration of this day has certainly helped me to be more concerned about preserving our Mother Earth”, said another from Newman School, Neotan. To support the cause of the preservation of Mother Earth and to mark of the Year of the Family in the Diocese, Bishop George has requested every family in the Diocese to plant 12 trees. “We thank our Bishop for always insisting on the importance of planting trees and preservation of the Environment.   Diocese of Miao  was blessed to have His Excellency Salvatore Pennachhio, the Apostolic Nuncio to India, with us on the occasion of the Blessing and Inauguration of our new Bishop’s House on 24th May, 2014.  “It was indeed a matter of great joy to have the Vatican Ambassador with us on the historical day of the blessing of our new Bishop’s House. Youth for Social Transformation – Catholic Youth Fest in Miao

  The Catholic Youth of Miao Diocese came together for a mega Youth Convention and Animation Programme for four days from 22nd to 25th May, 2014 at Light of the World School, Miao, with the theme ‘Youth for Social Transformation’. The Spiritual Revival Ministry Team from Bangalore, led by Bro. Xavier animated the 1300 youth delegates gathered from the seven Districts of East Arunachal Pradesh. Bishop George, inaugurating the Youth Convention said, “I am overwhelmed to see so many of our future leaders of our society and of the Church. Thank you very much for responding in such a large number. Please know that you have come to share and experience the joy of being Catholic and to be animated by the Spirit so that you could indeed become the agents of the transformation that our society needs.” He also added a word of caution to the youth about the growing number of drug addicts among the youth in the region and how it destroys them and the society. “You are the future. You are our hope. You can make our society or break it. I request each one of you to take a strong pledge against drug and all other addictions”, he added. The election of new Diocesan Youth Representatives was the highlight the event. We thank our North East Regional Youth Commission, Sr. Regina, the Regional Youth Director, in particular for encouraging us with her presence and helping us with the election of new office-bearers. Felix at the end of the election. Together with the spiritual animation by the SRM team, the youth also participated in many competitions with enthusiasm and energy. The winning teams were awarded with trophies and overall champion parish took home a Rolling Champion Trophy, which this year was won by the Miao Parish. “It’s not about winning or losing. But it is about getting an opportunity represent my parish and show our talents that God has given us. New Bishop’s House Blessed in Miao

  The humble old Bishop’s House in Miao Diocese, Arunachal Pradesh was replaced by a beautiful new house on May 24, 2014 by His Excellency Salvatore Pennacchio, the Apostolic Nuncio to India in the presence of His Grace John Moolachira, the Archbishop of Guwahati and several other Bishops from North East India and thousands of catholic faithful and dignitaries from in and around Miao.  “I am so happy to be here with you today on this important event in the history of the Diocese of Miao”, said the Apostolic Nuncio, blessing and inaugurating the new Bishop’s House. “I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome and colourful reception I received from the time I reached at the airport till I reached this place. Thank you very much. Your presence in large number today is an example of the strong Church here this region. I would like to congratulate Bishop George for the hard works he does for the people in this region and wish that God’s blessing be upon him, in this new Bishop’s House and all the people in this region”, he added.  The process of the cause of Canonization of Servants of Krick and Bourry, the first Martyrs of North East India, who were killed in Somme village of Arunachal Pradesh, on their way to Tibet was also formally inaugurated on this day.
