One Tree – One Family – Green Initiative by Neotan Village
The Diocese of Miao has been making news for its Green Initiatives under the guidance of Bishop George Pallipparambil SDB. One more of such green movement has been initiated in the Diocese of Miao by the people in small village called Neotan in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh on 22nd February 2015.
After setting an example of giving a sapling instead of the customary flowers to the invited guests and dignitaries of all its functions, the Diocese of Miao has come up another initiative to the promotion of green culture. Inaugurating the event at the Church premises, Fr. Tony, the Priest incharge said, “It is our humble beginning to spread awareness on the promotion of aforestation in the context of so much deforestation that is going on everywhere.” The villagers aim at planting 200 trees in and around the village. Distributing the plants on the occasion, Mrs. Tonem Mossang, the wife of Hon’ble Minister Kamlung Mossang, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh said, “I know we cannot see the result of our action today. But our younger generation will have fresh air to breath.”
In this modern time when deforestation is taking place in a rapid speed, such green initiative will do a lot of good to the nature as well as create a green awareness among the people.
It is worth mentioning here that Neotan is the only 100% literate village in Arunachal Pradesh. (With input from Fr. Tony, Neotan)
