All Souls Day Celebrated at the Cemetery in Miao
Praying for the departed ones has been a tradition of the Church from the beginning. The month of November is dedicated to the departed soul and it is also called the month of “the departed souls”. During this month the Catholic cemeteries are cleaned up and starting from 2nd November called the All Souls’ day, people visit the cemeteries and pray for the departed friends and relatives.
Here in Miao, we tried to reach every village cemetery where Catholics are buried and pray for them as well as bless the whole graveyard. People assemble with great devotion and pray the Rosary.
On 2nd this year, though a Sunday, We had a Mass in the cemetery and blessed the graves. All the families, whether anyone is buried there or not came for it. It is a moving scene and it reminds us of the many who have gone before us; as they say “those who sacrificed their tomorrow for our today”.
This also becomes an occasion for people to think of how short lived our life here is and how we need to keep in mind constantly the reality of death; not to be frightened by or to escape from life but to face life boldly, with God on our side.
We join together and pray for those whom we know and the many whom no one remembers in prayer; “eternal rest give unto them o Lord, let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in Peace.
